Little Green Books Review & Giveaway (3 Winners)

I'm so excited to talk about Little Green Books from Simon and Schuster!  They are just about the cutest children's book I've seen, and every book has a great message.  From recycling, to planting, and anything earth-friendly.  And to top it all, the books themselves are made from recycled materials.
The fact that the books are made of recycled materials was a great way for the kids to get interested in the books and get curious about what they would learn.
We received four books to review.

I Can Save the Ocean!: The Little Green Monster Cleans Up the Beach: by Alison Inches, Illustrated by Viviana Garofoli.
AGES: 4-6
"Max the Little Green Monster is a cute, furry green monster that loves the outdoors (especially the beach), but Max and his friends don't like cleaning up after themselves! After a picnic on the shore, they leave a big mess behind and go scuba diving. Max is excited to meet lots of new ocean-swimming friends from crabs to colorful fish to an ink-squirting squid, but along the way he learns how his carelessness and littering may have harmed the beautiful ocean. The Little Green Monster then goes on a quest to clean and protect the beach and finds out what it means to be environmentally green."

The kids were really able to relate to this book.  We live near the beach, so they really understood the importance of keeping their beaches and oceans clean.  The book is really well illustrated, and gets the kids to really understand what behaviors it takes to pollute by following Max around.  It also shows that certain things can not only make the beaches and oceans dirty, but it can also hurt the animals around.  I loved that it also gives examples of ways for them to be able to help "save the oceans".  It gives example likes, using reusable bags, reusable bottles, etc...  The kids were excited to see that they already do some of these things, and how they can do more.

Don't Throw That Away!: A Lift-the-Flap Book about Recycling and Reusing.
by Lara Bergen, Illustrated by Betsy Snyder.
Ages 4-6

"Follow an eco-conscious super hero as he teaches kids how to recycle and reuse common household items! The five large flaps throughout show that ordinary trash is really a treasure. From turning old clothes into fun costumes or an old box into a brand new car, kids will learn that saving the environment is super cool!"

This book was really fun for the kids as they could use their imagination to see what these old household items could be turned back into.  It shows them an old item and asks what it could be turned into, and you flip the flap to see what they suggest.  My two year old also enjoyed this book, and the kids found it fun that these examples were easy to accomplish at home.

My First Garden
by Wendy Lewison, Illustrated by Miki Sakamoto
Ages 2-5

"Come along with a mother and daughter as they dig up soil, plant a flower bed, and water the seeds to make their very first garden. Together they watch the colorful vegetables grow, grow, grow! This book teaches a first concept of colors as well. The book has a handle die-cut through on every page so kids can take the book with them wherever they go!"

This was very cute book, and perfect for my kids as we just started a growing a garden this year.  The kids had fun guessing what veggies were growing.  It was very sweet and short, and definitely great for younger kids.

The Adventures of an Aluminum Can
by Alison Inches, Illustrated by Mark Chambers.
Ages 4-6

"Peek into this diary of an aluminum can as it goes on a journey from inside a bauxite rock under the beaches of Jamaica, to the manufacturing line, to the store shelf, to a garbage can, and finally to a recycling plant where it emerges into its new life...as a baseball bat! "

This was a cute story written from the point of view of a laid-back aluminum can through her diary.  It takes you on her adventures starting as a small speck of alumina to becoming several things, after being reused and recycled.  It really got the attention of my 5 year old, who enjoyed seeing how recycling a simple aluminum can, can become something completely different.  It is a little longer book, and I would suggest it for 5 and 6 years old, as my 4 year old lost interest after a few pages.

Little Green Books has several other titles, make sure to check them out here.  Another great thing, is that they offer fun activities and downloadable assets to go along with the books.  Find those here.

BUY IT~ You can buy these books at any of these retailers Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Powell's Bookstore, IndieBound, Books-A-Million, Simon & Schuster.

Shout out to Tag*a*Long

Last year, I did a review, and a giveaway for Tag*a*Long and I just wanted to mention them again because I absolutely love my Tag*a*Longs!  Yes, there's an "s" at the end of Tag*a*Long, I have 4, and I use them all the time!  I have two on my double stroller, one on my single stroller, and one that I keep in the car, and use on the shopping carts at the stores.  They're a mom lifesaver, and if you haven't heard of them, check them out here.

Make Your Own: Frozen Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches

My kids love uncrustables, but I just can't justify them on our budget.  So I started making my own.  It's like the kids never knew the difference, and it's so much better on the budget!

You will need:
  • 24 Slices of bread
  • 1 Jar of Jelly
  • 1 Jar of Peanut Butter
Directions:
  • Cut the crusts off all sides of the bread.
  • Spread a very thin layer of peanut butter on half the slices. That thin layer will prevent the bread from getting soggy.
  • On that thin layer, add a layer of jelly.
  • On the other half of the bread slices, spread a normal amount of peanut butter.
  • Assemble your sandwiches.
  • Wrap them individually in either a sandwich bag or foil.
  • Put them all back in the bread bag, or a large freezer bag.
  • And freeze.

It's that simple, and will save so much time when in a hurry.  Just let it thaw for a few minutes when you need one.

    Mixbook Review and Giveaway

I love taking pictures of my kids and keeping memories, but who has the time to have them printed and put in photo albums with little ones running around.
I decided about a year ago that I would abandon the whole photo album thing, and transition to photo books only.

I was very excited when I was given the opportunity to try Mixbook photo books.  I've tried many different companies, and I was interested to see what made Mixbook different.

I really enjoyed the photo book making process.

Their books are a 100% customizable, and allows you to begin with either a blank book or an existing template that can then be edited to your liking.  It was very easy to use and fun to customize.  I am definitely not the most artistic person out there, but they give you lots of examples, and ideas that it becomes really easy to add-in little decorations and text.

We just got back from a little vacation to Orlando, so I took the opportunity to make my vacation photo book.  I used one of their many templates, and was able to easily change a couple of the backgrounds so that they blended with my pictures better.  I loved using their "Stickers" to fill in any empty spots on the pages.  Overall, I was very pleased with the "making" process of the book, now all that was left was to wait until it arrived to see the real result...

My Mixbook photo book came out beautiful!  And it shipped a lot quicker than expected!  The colors are great, and the quality is amazing.  I would definitely recommend their books.  Everyone who has seen this Mixbook photo book was impressed, and thought I must of worked for hours on it. I won't tell them Mixbook did all the work!!

BUY IT:  They offer many sizes and different prices.  Use Mixbook Coupon Code: KDNDLS25 to get 25% your order!!  One time use per customer.

    ~Giveaway~

Eric at Mixbook generously offered one of Kids and Deals readers to win a Complimentary 20-page, 11x8.5 landscape, hardcover photo book with free US Ground shipping!!

Seventh Generation Diapers Review & Giveaway

When it comes to taking care of my little ones, I try to give them the best products out there (ones that I can afford), but I'm definitely one to go with convenience.  Some moms go with cloth diapers, and I admire them, I just couldn't do it.  But did you know that most disposable diapers are bleached with chlorine?  Yeah, not great to think we are putting that one our little ones bottoms...
Seventh Generation's Free & Clear diapers to not include chlorine processing, fragrances, latex and petroleum based lotions.
Seventh Generation wants to offer you an EXCLUSIVE sneak peek at their newly re-launched Free & Clear diapers. With the same great performance that parents have come to expect from Seventh Generation, Free & Clear diapers have a brand new look that makes it `clear´ what makes them so special.

In an effort to contribute less overall landfill waste and continue to ensure a premium standard of absorbency, the new Free & Clear diapers have been redesigned with a lighter-weight core. With processed chlorine-free wood pulp in Free & Clear diapers, Seventh Generation also makes certain that no chlorine is released into the environment during the totally chlorine-free (TCF) whitening process of the diapers and training pants.
Seventh Generation has also reduced the size of the diapers´ plastic packaging, meaning that each pack now contributes even less overall landfill waste than before. In fact, Seventh Generation Free & Clear diaper packaging can now be recycled at local supermarkets where plastic bag recycling collection boxes are available.

I used Seventh Generation Free & Clear diapers with my youngest one.  She's three months old, so her skin is still sensitive, and i'm careful about what we use on her.  I loved the fit of the diapers, her skin stayed nice and healthy, and very importantly, we did not experience any leaks!  We plan on buying Seventh Generation Free & Clear diapers as much as possible in our effort to try to live a "greener" life.

And Seventh Generation is helping us stay on budget while buying their products!
Visit http://bit.ly/seventhgendcoupon to download a printable coupon for $2.00 OFF any ONE Seventh Generation Baby Product (Diapers, Training Pants, or Wipes)!
