Just in time for Winter, kids get to learn all about the weather and how prepare for a large storm with Freddy the Frogcaster!
Freddy the Frogcaster and the Big Blizzard by Janice Dean. Illustrated by Russ Cox
About the Book: There's a blizzard blowing toward Lilypad and someone has to warn the frogs! Freddy is taking a school trip to the Frog News Network, and notices a big blizzard blowing into the little town of Lilypad. Freddy jumps into action, building blizzard kits for the weather team- kits that ultimately lead to Freddy saving the day.
My Thoughts: The story is very engaging for young children, and they get to learn a lot about the weather and the science behind snow storms. We do not get winter storms in Florida, so my kids enjoyed learning about the behind the scenes of cold weather from the terms and the science explanations at the end of the story. We could relate to preparing survival kits, as we prepare them for Hurricanes, and the book does a great job at relieving the anxiety kids can get from an incoming storm by showing how Freddy calmly prepares kits. The images in the book are really nice and colorful. Overall, it's a great story for young kids.
