I built my ideal kitchen drawer with my favorite 15 items! Check them out:

Tools in My Drawer:
  1. Collapsible Funnel: This helps transfer any liquids or spices into jars, cans or bottles without a mess.  The collapsible part saves me so much space in my kitchen.
  2. Chrome Whisk, 10": This whisk works very well, I tried it with eggs and it was very efficient.  It's also small enough to not take too much room in your drawer.
  3. Prep Bowls, 5pc Set: These little prep bowls have come in so handy, and I love that they have measurements in each bowl, all the way from ¼ cup to 2-cups.
  4. Stuffed Burger Press:  You can make the ideal burger with this press.  So easy to use, and you can choose to stuff them or not.  I loved using this on the grill, my burgers looked professional.  Make sure the burger meat is not too moist or they will be hard to take out of the press.
  5. Nonstick Santoku Knife, 5":  This is perfect to cut meats, fish, poultry, and vegetables. It was effortless, I don't think I've ever had a knife this nice before.
  6. Nonstick Sandwich Knife, 5": The sandwich knife was perfect to cut through a loaf of bread, or a baguette.  It made nice straight cuts without squishing my bread.
  7. Nonstick Chef's Knife, 5": I used this knife to chop onions, carrots, and potatoes.  It super easy to cut, and fun to use. I love the nonstick coating, which makes it fast to clean up.
  8. Count Up or Down Digitial Timer: This digital timer has the option to count down or up for anything you need timed. My favorite feature is the magnetic strip so I can keep it on the fridge.  It also has a clip that you can use as a stand or actually clip it somewhere. It was easy to figure out too.
  9. Candy/Deep Fry Thermometer:  I don't need a thermometer often but at times it can be necessary.  I used it for making meringue icing, and it worked great.  You can also use it for meats, or candy making. It withstands extreme temperatures between 110-400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  10. Classic Pizza Cutter: Everyone needs a reliable pizza cutter. This one works great, and it is rust and tarnish resistant.
  11. Lobster Cracker: I love this multi function cracker. We had to buy lobsters for me to try this one out of course!  It's really strong, and worked great.  You can use it for nuts too.
  12. Skewers, 4ct: Perfect for anything from vegetables to meats on the grill, and you can reuse them as often as you want.
  13. Salad Tongs: I love the clear plastic, and the fact that they are easy to use.  I can pick up salad or fruit easily with these tongs.  They are pretty enough to use at a party too.
  14. "Measure From Above" 3 Piece Liquid Measuring Cup Set: This set allows you to measure from above to make it easier.  It also has a tear drop shape for easy pouring, and you can mix and measure all in the same cup.
  15. Soap Dispensing Scour Sponge Scrubber:  We all have to clean the kitchen at some point, so why not making it easier on ourselves.  I love having the handle, I think it's easier on my hands.  Just fill the transparent handle with your liquid dish soap, press techy black seal to close and scour away.

Meet my Drawer:
"Everything but the Kitchen Sink Drawer"

Being from France, I decided I would make my signature Quiche Lorraine using some of my new tools.  I did modify it a little from the traditional Quiche Lorraine, but it's still delicious.

  • 2 cups Cheese (any mix you prefer)
  • 6 slices of Bacon
  • 2 cups Milk

  • Add 1/4 cup of cheese.
  • Cut Bacon in small pieces, and place over cheese.

  • Beat with wire whisk the eggs and milk. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Cinco de Mayo Inspired Family Dinner with Old El Paso

I know Cinco de Mayo has come and gone, but it doesn't mean we can't still enjoy Mexican dinners at home in the spirit of Cinco de Mayo.

I couldn't wait to do a Fajita dinner with the family, and I was very happy to find the Old El Paso Frozen Fajita kits in the freezer section of my grocery store.

It made for a very easy prep time.

First you can't have a Mexican dinner without a little guacamole!

While everyone was enjoying their appetizers, I was preparing the Fajitas.  In all fairness, I didn't have to work that hard.  All I needed to do was fry the frozen fajita kits in the pan for 10 minutes.  I made chicken fajitas, and steak ones.

Prepare some cheese and tortillas, and voila....

The Fajitas really tasted great.  I was surprised at how good they were.

Delicious dinner in less than 15 minutes.

When are you having your Mexican dinner?

Disclosure: I received coupons to purchase Old El Paso food, and the bowl and glasses from #PlatefullCoOp in order to write this review.  All opinions are 100% mine.

Easy One Pot Curry Chicken & Potatoes with Good Cook Products

Cooking is fun for some, necessary for others, but there is no doubt that with great kitchen tools, everything is better!

I got to try some awesome new kitchen products from Good Cook, and decided to try them out with one of my favorite recipes.

Curry Chicken and Potatoes

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb chicken breast chopped into small cubes
  • 4 potatoes, chopped into cubes
  • 4 Tbsp.Thai Red Curry Paste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 Tbsp. ketchup
  • 1 can thick coconut milk
  • 2-3 Tbsp. vegetable oil for stir-frying
Directions:

  1. Place large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the curry paste, bay leaf, and chili powder and fry for 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add 2 Tbsp. oil, add onion, and garlic, then add a few Tbsp. of the chicken broth. Stir 1 minute. Add the chicken and potatoes, fry 4 minutes to coat with the spices.
  3. Add remaining broth and ketchup stirring well to combine.
  4. Add the coconut milk.
  5. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce to simmer for 30 minutes or until potatoes are cooked.
Serve over rice.

Serves 4.

I used three of my new ingredients in this recipe.

Safe-cut Can Opener: It makes safe and clean cuts by slicing through the can under the rim of the lid, making no contact with contents.  It also eliminates kitchen clutter by serving as a bottle opener, cap twister, and tab puller.  It was so easy to use, I love it.

Pot Clip Holder: This helps you avoid making a mess on the counter or cutting board. Just attach the clip to the side of any pot, sauté pan or fryer.  It was so convenient to have it for this recipe.  The clip never got hot, and is so easy to clean, you can even put it in the dishwasher.  And I also love the it allows to food to drip back into the dish so there is no waste.

Flip Measuring spoon:  This innovative measuring spoon set includes double sided pockets that inverts to different measuring capacities of 1/4 tsp, 1/2 tsp, 1 tsp, and 1 tbsp for precise cooking or baking with either liquid or solid ingredients.  It saves so much space in my drawer, and was very easy to use.  It's also easy to clean.

I also received these other two products:

SMART Ice cream scoop: This ice cream scooper in non stick, and splits in half to release perfect balls of ice cream with no residue.  Ice cream can be so hard to serve, and this ice cream scoop made it so easy, my ice cream ball looked professional!

Egg Separator: It helps you separate your eggs easily. This helped so much when I made my chocolate mousse recipe.  I can't tell you the amount of wasted eggs I've had in the past from not separating them well. It's also dishwasher safe which is a feature I love.

Martial Arts for Kids Review & Giveaway

I've always wanted to sign my kids up for a Martial Arts class, but with the cost of these courses and having four kids, we haven't been able to find a way to afford.  I definitely believe in everything that Martial Arts teaches, and I think it can be very beneficial for children, but everything around us is way out of our budget.

So you can imagine my excitement when I found out your can now enroll your kids in a Martial Arts course online.

Liz Weaver has been teaching the self defense art of Shou' Shu' Kung Fu professionally since 1995. She pioneered the teaching of children in this art. Having perfected the teaching system over the last 19 years she has now brought the experience online.

The primary benefit of training in the system is self defense, however, children will also gain in other areas, such as:

Respect- They will learn the protocols and meanings of these protocols. these are designed to teach respect for oneself and others.

Discipline- Our martial arts instruction is inspiring. Children will be inspired to work hard and will thereby naturally develop self discipline.

Physical Fitness - Classes are energetic. Kids will get lots of exercise.

Coordination - Shou' Shu' develops coordination. Especially due to that large amount of cross lateral motions. Cross lateral motions have been shown to enhance learning. Especially helpful for kids with ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia or similar.

Ant-Bullying - Kids will learn to understand how to prevent bullying as well as determining threat level and appropriate responses.

Fun - classes your child is sure to enjoy!

My kids really enjoyed following along the different lectures.  We've haven't finished all the lectures yet, but I feel that they get a great understanding from the online course.

The lectures range from 4 to 40 minutes, and they're at a great pace to be able to follow along, even for very young children. You can stop and continue later if you please, and you can go back through any lesson you want.

I wasn't sure how well my kids would do with an online course, but it has worked really well for them so far.

Disney Frozen Birthday Party

Once again, I had a blast planning another Disney theme Birthday Party!

This time I prepared a Frozen Birthday Party.

My daughter has been crazy about the movie since seeing it at the theater, and all she wanted was a Frozen birthday.  The only challenge was that everything Frozen in the stores was sold out, and winter themed supplies are not easy to find in the spring, so I had to turn to homemade decorations for the most part.

These were the main centerpieces

They were a lot of fun to make, and people loved them

Frozen characters cost about $30, if I could find them online, and I didn't want to spend that much money, so I handmade them

I printed images on photo paper, hot glued some wood craft sticks to make a stand, and hot glued the images to the stand.

Place them in a large mason jar, add some Epsom salt and decorate

Meet Olaf!
This was our pin the nose on Olaf game

A fun game for all ages

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

I set up a snowman building station with marshmallows, pretzel sticks, chocolate chips, tic tacs, and icing for glue

The kids had fun building their snowmen on cake pop sticks

This life size stand up was one of the only Frozen theme item I could find to buy, and it worked perfect for photo opportunities

Of course, you can't have a party without food!

Blue drinks in Frozen cups for thirsty kids

Last but not least, the cake!

Chocolate cake with meringue icing.
I made the snowflakes and name with white chocolate.

We had another fun party, and a happy child.  I love planning themed parties, can't wait to see what will come next....

Allons Danser! French Music for Kids by Whistlefritz

A few months ago I got the chance to review the French DVD for Kids Dedans et Dehors from Whistlefritz.

This time we got to sing and dance along with Allons Danser! (Let's Dance!) from Whistlefritz.

Allons Danser! is a French music CD with irresistible rhythms and catchy songs that introduce French words and phrases such as numbers, parts of the body and children's favorite topics.

My kids have been having a blast listening to the songs, and I love that they are learning while doing it.  The songs are upbeat, and fun to listen to, and at the same time, they are learning.

Fluent in French myself, I really appreciate the fact that the songs are sang by native French speakers.

I also really enjoyed seeing traditional French songs such as "La Barbichette", mixed with traditional American songs translated in French such as "Le Vieux MacDonald (Old MacDonald)".

This is a fun CD to listen to at home or in the car, and also a great product to use in addition to other materials to learn French.

You can listen to samples of all the songs here.

BUY IT: Buy it online from Whistlefritz for $14.99 HERE.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the product above in order to write my review.  All opinions are 100% my own.
